HeartPace: Engineering the first biological Pacemaker for bradycardia patients

HeartPace will deliver the first-ever biological pacemaker platform, based on adenoviral gene therapy, providing an improved alternative over electronic devices to treat bradycardia. To achieve this goal, we will develop a suite of novel technologies that can permanently restore and regenerate natural cardiac pacing. By the end of the project, we will provide i) a short-term pacemaker gene therapy ready to enter pre-CTA/IMPD studies and ii) proof-of-concept for long-term pacemaker gene therapy.

The embraceME consortium aims to deliver a breakthrough ICT-based insightful monitoring system for nursing homes - AdvantAGE - consisting of a contactless, real-time predictive alert system, with intelligent insight into health data, combining ultra-wide band (UWB) radar technology with state-of-the-art machine learning. It aims at easing the workload of nurses while increasing residents’ life-quality by offering improved fall detection and tailored health monitoring, allowing a prompt action.

Optimized aneurysm patient treatment through the combination of AI and biomechanics.

The formation of an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is by far the most common aortic disease and its prevalence (1.7%-8.9% in the 65+ population) increases strongly with age. Optimal health care treatment of AAA patients critically depends on an AAA rupture risk assessment. ARI is a software platform that performs a patient-individual AAA rupture risk assessment using regularly taken CT images together with patient parameters, such as age, gender and medication history.

SAPPHIRE will develop cutting edge technologies for the manufacture of embedded antenna and electronic components onto existing housings, replacing existing surface mounted, manually assembled units. SAPPHIRE will significantly reduce production costs and optimise antenna performance though maximising available volume. This will be applicable across a range of smart automotive antennas, including: 3G, 4G, and new 5G cellular service, WiFi, Vehicle to vehicle (V2X), Bluetooth and GPS antennas.

Predictive Maintenance and Data Based Optimization of Production Technology for Composites

PREDATOR develops a reliable HP-RTM process for industrial large scale production using intelligent data processing systems. Data will be acquired and transferred through the process chain (molding to post- processing). This allows to predict the maintenance intervals of the mold based on the generated process data that is also used as input value for the post processing. In the milling process, integrated sensors monitor the components structure borne sound for tool wear and part QA prediction.

Advanced lens design for emergency lighting through tailored beam femtosecond laser texturing

We want to research about the first approaches in the market of polymer mould injection manufacturing by means of replicating submicron structured steel surfaces. To this end, advanced techniques in femtosecond lasers from CLBS (beam shaping module), LASEA (overall system integration) and MLTT (system control algorithm) will be integrated. The initial targeted application is the manufacturing of advanced optical components for emergency lighting, developed by LAINTEC from design to demonstrator

HIPIMS with positive pulse technology for advanced coatings on 3D complex geometries

HIgh Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HIPIMS) with Positive Pulse (PP) technology development and implementation at industrial scale for high volume coating deposition on 3D complex geometry parts. HIPIMS PP will be validated and applied to develop high-quality films for: • Complex shape milling tools to improve cutting processes for aerospace & medical markets • Large molds with cavities of high aspect ratios for plastic injection to increase mold performance for packaging industry.

Digital Psychological Trauma Treatment with a smart AI driven mental healthcare platform

This consortium will revolutionize Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment by developing a digital mental health platform (PSYCH-AID). It offers a need-driven online trauma treatment enhanced with digital monitoring, AI-based analytics, treatment tools incl. adaptive EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) using VR together with real-time support by therapists. PSYCH-AID will develop a functional prototype and establish early validation to support commercialization.
