Eurostars funding information for Malta
SME
Eurostars is part of the European Partnership on Innovative SMEs. The partnership is co-funded by the European Union through Horizon Europe.
Maltese funding body, Malta Enterprise, funds R&D costs for SMEs participating in our Eurostars programme.
Malta Enterprise covers up to 70% of eligible industrial research project costs and up to 45% of experimental development project costs for small companies.
Malta Enterprise also covers up to 60% of eligible industrial research project costs and up to 35% of eligible experimental development project costs for medium-sized companies.
Funding can be given as a tax credit and/ or a cash grant on a refund basis. An additional top up to these percentages could be applied if the project involves effective collaboration.
Eligible costs include:
- Personnel
- Use of equipment
- Contractual research costs
- Technical knowledge
- Patents
- Other operating expenses

Malta Enterprise covers up to 50% of eligible industrial research project costs and up to 25% of eligible experimental development project costs for large companies.

Malta currently has no allocated budget for universities and research organisations participating in our Eurostars programme. If you are a Maltese university or research organisations wanting to participate in a Eurostars consortium, contact Malta Enterprise to see whether there are other funding opportunities available or talk to them about self-funding.
